OUR STORY

From Quito to Your Door

Huma Chocolate was born in 2019 in Quito, Ecuador, when David Bustamante and three partners shared a simple but bold idea: that Ecuador's cacao deserved to be recognized as one of the finest in the world — not just as a raw ingredient exported to other countries, but as a finished, award-winning chocolate crafted at home.

David grew up in Quito surrounded by a country whose soil produces some of the most complex fine aroma cacao on the planet. Together with his co-founders, he set out to build something that honored that heritage from the very first bean to the very last snap of the bar.

Today, Huma is an internationally award-winning craft chocolate maker, working directly with small farmers from Esmeraldas and other regions of Ecuador — ensuring fair pricing, full traceability, and the kind of quality you can taste.

Why Bean to Bar?

Most chocolate in the world is made by companies that buy processed cacao mass and add ingredients. Huma does the opposite.

Every bar begins with the selection of ripe cacao pods, hand-harvested from small farms. The seeds are fermented — the critical step that unlocks complex flavors — then sun-dried, hand-selected, roasted, cracked, separated, refined, and finally tempered on marble and molded by hand.

Twelve steps. Zero shortcuts.

The result is a chocolate made with just three pure ingredients: Ecuadorian cacao paste, 100% natural cacao butter, and cane sugar. No chemicals. No preservatives. No artificial flavors. Just the authentic taste of Ecuador.

Award-Winning, Internationally Recognized

Huma's chocolates have earned recognition at the International Chocolate Awards — the world's most prestigious competition for fine chocolate:

🥇 Gold — International Chocolate Awards, Americas

🥈 Silver — International Chocolate Awards, Americas 2023

🥉 Bronze — International Chocolate Awards, Americas 2023

These aren't marketing claims. They're verdicts from the world's most demanding chocolate judges.
